Trump, Kaine Clash Over War Powers 60-Day Deadline
The issue under debate pertains to the understanding of the War Powers Resolution, which mandates the President to terminate all hostilities after 60 days of operation unless the US Congress approves the extension.
In this regard, the former President Donald Trump and the Secretary of Defense claim that the rule on the cessation of operations within 60 days is outdated since there was already a ceasefire implemented as of April 7. As a consequence, the time has stopped and Congress’s authorization is unnecessary.
Nevertheless, Senator Tim Kaine opposes the notion. He argues that the ceasefire will not pause the process, meaning that the 60-day period is still running.
